One of the aspects we’re particularly interested in exploring is the translation of real events into a fictional format and the disclosure and encoding that goes along with that. As such Prof Matt and I have proposed a paper to present at the Graphic Medicine Conference 2013: Ethics Under Cover.
Using my works The Tale Of Brin & Bent And Minno Marylebone, HOAX My Lonely Heart and HOAX Psychosis Blues as our examples, we’ll be discussing representations of trauma and mental illness through fictional narrative and movement between genres.
I feel we have something really interesting to share so I very much hope our proposal is accepted. It’ll also give me a chance to double-act on stage with Prof Matt, who I suspect has a quiet yearning to break out into Lycra-clad song and dance. We shall see.
The conference takes place in Brighton this July. One of the keynote speakers I’m really looking forward to hearing is Nicola Streeten…
… which leads me nicely to my next catch-up post: Laydeez Do Comics - Cakes! And being invited to speak.
